Being active and engaged on social platforms is essential for success.
And thinking about what value you’re delivering is the most important to a reader.
Instagram is one of the “hottest” social platforms among professional brands, particularly those involved in the design/build industries.
It’s visual. Straightforward. Seems uncomplicated. Why not jump on?
As part of an overall marketing strategy, Instagram has now evolved into a main stream platform that you really should be active on, especially if you’re selling something visual.
Note the word “active”. Just because you’ve created an account doesn’t mean your “on” instagram in a real way. A couple of pics don’t count. If anything, it counts against you when people go to check you out.
So how do you get started with this platform and get engagement?
Getting Started
Start with your database and find your customers on Instagram. Not necessarily your consumer/end user customers if you sell retail, but your professional partners. The people you network with. The companies you’d like to work with. It’s not about stalking. It’s about good, organic marketing and engagement.
And it’s about consistency. Posting at some sort of regular intervals. Not 12 posts in 20 minutes and then nothing for six months.
And think about what value you’re delivering to the person “consuming” the content you post. This shouldn’t be a big sales flyer. Don’t talk about your latest sale or your 3 day discount. Share your expertise both visually and verbally, and, on this platform, use lots of hashtags. Lots and lots of hashtags.
And know that what really gets someone’s attention is when they receive comments on something that they’ve posted. The benefit you’ll receive for doing that is both increased recognition and an opportunity to really connect to see if you can do business together.
People you engage with on social media DO notice this. They are aware that you’re engaging with them on the platforms because not that many people actually go beyond just scrolling and trolling.
