How do I know whether or not to boost my Facebook posts?
There’s are big difference between Facebook advertising and Facebook’s “Boost Post” options.
Paid advertising campaigns are more complex, but more effective in reaching objectives like lead generation or list growth.
So how do you decide which to do?
Christian Smedberg and I share insights on when it’s a good idea to boost to posts on Facebook.
Just boosting a post can be the equivalent of playing a slot machine in Vegas. Yes, you can select categories, and you feel better because you’ve reached people, but isi that a win – or is it not a win?
FB boost posting is a good tool but you have to start with the end in mind.
If you’re wanting to achieve a certain goal and are set on boosting a post, make sure that post is going to achieve your goal. If you want followers on your Facebook, then don’t boost the post to people who are already following your page.
Let’s talk vanity metrics for a minute- what I’ve been “stewing in” is that there is value to that – the wider the reach – if they’re for real people – then the more value I bring to the table. That’s building an organic base of people I’m able to communicate with.
Boosting should be part of an overall strategy with marketing. Facebook is going to urge you to boost your post – by spending $5 or $10. Facebook is telling me i can reach all these people if i just spend a few bucks. And Facebook isn’t lying. They will distribute the content.
Don’t always trust the suggestion that’s coming from Facebook. Look for posts that already have lots of engagement- that relate to your brand – that have a call to action – then ok. Otherwise, you’re back in VEgas.
Create a post specific for posting. Have a call to action. A link to your website. Post this piece of content. Wait a few days. See if you get traction. Then decide if you want to boost the post.
And if you feel like you’ve got questions or need help, here’s an option to help:
